There
are many things anthropologists can do (and do do) without risking losing
the whole lot down the multimedia toilet.
Why
would they bother?
Simply
because if one of the fundamental aims of anthropology is to document
the human ability for diverse cultural expression, some of which are
vanishing or endangered, then we should be excited about using different
media to do the job. Anthropology is inherently experimental, modern,
dynamic and social, and it makes complete sense to embrace the new possibilities
offered by new technologies to record, share and debate.
